| I'll keep this as short as possible - I'm looking for piston recommendations. I have my engine out again, and this time it's torn down to the bare block for various reasons. I'm replacing the rings and main/rod bearings as well as some other miscelaneous bits. I'm not very adept with this part of the car right now, but I'm learning. The plan is to clear out the water passages, etc. and send it off to be honed, milled and tanked. I'm also having the crank journals polished while it's out. The plan is to keep it completely stock, but with a good set of non-OEM pistons (being the weaker link in the bottom end). Here are my questions: Which is the better set of pistons - CP, Wiseco or JE? I did a little research here on tt.net and came up with pros and cons for each.. but nothing definiteve. I was advised to use CP pistons by a few local engine builders, and read that their finish/tolerance is second to none (and that many of the vendors use them on customers cars) - but I also read that there might be some design issues with them (shorter skirts, ring land is closer to the top than usual, tight fit with the oil squirters. I also read about the Wiseco's having detonation grooves and gas accumulator grooves... not sure if others have these "features"? I understand most come with new wrist pins, and a few come with new rings - but I'm not clear on which. I'm planning on staying with stock rods to keep the cost down. Is it adviseable to use my current set w/50k miles on them, or buy new? What determines whether I will need an 87.5mm or an 88.0mm set of pistons? Let's just say I'm confused. =)
